Dan has engineered and/or mixed some of Australia’s finest Pop & Rock ‘n’ Roll records, with several of them either going on to become ARIA winning recordings or having made the nomination category. He has recorded King Princess on her single Femme Fatale, Bernard Fanning for his version of Caravan of Love and G-Flip on the drums for a few songs from her latest album About Us (ARIA Nomination for Breakthrough Independent Artist of the Year).
Dan has also worked alongside Montaigne for her Sophomore album Glorious Heights, which went on to receive an ARIA for Breakthrough Artist and with Gurrumul on his last 2 albums, The Gospel Album (ARIA for Best World Music Album) & Djarimirri (ARIA for Best Male Artist, Best Independent Release, Best World Music Album & Best Cover Art)
Dan has also engineered The Waifs album Beautiful You (ARIA Nominee for Best Blues & Roots Album) and Ash Grunwald on his record Now – both of which were alongside Producer Nick DiDia.
Dan these days however is seen producing records for a plethora of bands to making records for singer-songwriters, to working with aspiring pop artists/bands; producing tracks, moulding and melding sounds together, taking that modern electronic laptop producer angle whilst cutting songs together his own way. Dan tends to keep the essence of a ‘live’ performance with the ability to cover a range of instruments himself, whether its with artists such as Oscar Thorburn doing just that who made the Spotify Discover Weekly Playlist or Charlie Gradon, whom covers all the aspects of performance himself and builds ideas and tracks together, which has garnered attention from Triple J & Triple J Unearthed respectively.
Dan achieves this through pulling his unique tone and quality approach he’s developed over the years keeping that organic feel, sound and flow of a band but managing to conjure together a complete sound on his own. Whilst amidst all this, he somehow finds time to jam and delve into the world of analog synths with 70s styled self-coined Flower Doom band Turtle Skull and work on his own solo ambient project Mittere.
Not only is Dan able to nail the pop side of things but he has also been across the more alternative side of it with Flyying Colours on their latest 2 singles Big Mess & Good Times from their yet to be released album.
